WHERE AND WHEN DO YOU MEET?
The choir meets fortnightly on a Monday evening at Widcombe school, 7:30 to 9:30pm.
ARE THERE OTHER OPPORTUNITIES TO REHEARSE?
YES, in the run up to a gig an extra choreo rehearsal may be arranged and the altos, sops and 2nd sops sometimes organise their own impromptu evenings to go over parts and moves…over a cuppa, or sometimes something stronger!
WHAT OTHER LEARNING RESOURCES ARE AVAILABLE?
Choir members have access to Web-based Dropbox folders containing the music, sound files of individual parts for private practice purposes, as well as the full arrangements giving you the ability to practice anywhere at any time.
DO I NEED TO READ MUSIC?
NO, you don’t need to read music to get the most out of the Sassparella experience. Many members of Sassparella don’t read music.
DO YOU PERFORM AND AT WHAT TYPE OF VENUES?
YES, we are a choir that loves to perform in range of venues in and around Bath – from Widcombe Social Club at every Party In the City to the rarified environs of The Pump Rooms. Other venues have included The Little Theatre, Wiltshire Music Centre, St Michael’s Without, The Roper Rooms. We have also performed further afield in Cirencester, Bristol and Bradford on Avon.
DO YOU SING FROM SONG SHEETS WHEN YOU PERFORM?
NO, our choir members take pride in learning the words and music by heart so that they can deliver performances that really connect with the audience.
HOW MANY ARE IN THE CHOIR?
A maximum of 50 choir members spread over all voice parts.
WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO JOIN?
Sassparella run on a three-termly basis starting in early September and finishing for a longer summer break. New members are always welcome, but we encourage joining at the start of a term as that’s when we tend to start working on new material.
DO I NEED TO BUY A CHOIR T-SHIRT?
NO, we don’t wear T-shirts, we wear a range of different outfits. Our signature look is black trousers with a champagne-coloured sequin top but we do vary outfits depending on the gig. This means you are free to choose a style that suits you as long as it complies with the overall guidelines which are published well in advance of gigs.
DO YOU MEET SOCIALLY OUTSIDE OF REGULAR REHEARSALS?
YES, we have a thriving social itinerary should you wish to join us for walks, picnics or parties.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The current subs are £170 for a season running from Sept through to the summer break.
